WHAT IS SITUATE 24-25?

The theme of this two-year program explores work that exists in digital and live scenarios. The artists will be challenged to embrace new ideas, generate bold concepts, think about larger-scale projects, and approach their practice in novel ways. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

This opportunity is for regionally based early to mid-career artists across all art forms who are either based in Tasmania or connected to the Partner Organisations listed below. For the purposes of this application, early to mid-career refers to artists who have been practising for less than ten years.

Partner Organisations:

  • DADAA WA: https://www.dadaa.org.au/

  • Watch This Space NT: https://www.wts.org.au/

  • Chamber Made VIC: https://chambermade.org

Applicants must be:

  • A regionally-based artist or creative practitioner who has been practising for less than ten years at the time of application.

  • Australian nationals or permanent residents. Proof of citizenship or residency may be required. This requirement is because Situate Artists often need to be able to access other funding to produce works of scale. Some State and Federal funding requires that applicants be Australian residents.

  • Over 18 years of age by the application date.

  • A Tasmanian Resident (only applicable for Tasmanian Artists)?

If you are not currently a Tasmanian resident, you will need to attach documentation evidencing your significant connection to Tasmania (e.g. through substantial periods of residence, family or cultural heritage connection, or work-related involvements.)

  • If you’re a national artist, have you been invited to apply by a partner organisation (Watch This Space, Chamber Made or DADAA)?

We strongly encourage artists from diverse backgrounds to apply. Please contact us if you need any assistance in applying via emma@assembly197.com

WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

You are ineligible to apply for this program if:

  • You are a previous Situate Artist.

  • You are a senior or established artist who has been practising for more than ten years.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A PROVOCATEUR?

A provocateur is an established artist who works closely with the SITUATE 24-25 participants to challenge and deepen their ideas, artistic processes, and art practice. Provocateurs will ensure that all participants can experiment and test their ideas in a supportive and critical environment. Provocateurs for the SITUATE 24-25 program will be chosen in response to the artists selected and their areas of interest.
