Kate MCDOWELL

Writer/Performer Kate McDowell is a regional artist based in the Northern Rivers, NSW. She holds NIDA Postgraduate Diploma in Writing for Performance and is Associate Artist at Northern Rivers Performing Arts (NORPA). In 2016 she was Assistant Director on NORPA’s site-based work ‘Dreamland’.
Kate’s long-form storytelling work, Wonderbabes, will premier in August 2018 as co-production with Walrus Creative and NORPA. Wonderbabes was supported by Arts NSW for residencies at NORPA and La Boite Theatre Company in 2016.
In 2014 Kate was NIDA Independent Resident Artist under the mentorship of Erth Physical and Visual Inc.
Kate is Dramaturgy Mentor to Sprung!! Integrated Dance Theatre and co-Director for their new work Share House, presented at ArtState Lismore 2017 and to be at Anywhere Festival Brisbane 2018.
Kate was Co-Artistic Director for Crack Theatre Festival, part of This Is Not Art Festival, Newcastle for 2016/17, and in 2015 – Producer.
As Creative Producer she developed Icarus Falling for 2014/15 tour, nominated for Best Emerging Artist, Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Kate Programmed and Produced for The Late Show and The Kids Comedy Gala for Strut n’ Fret Production House, and Cabaret Nova for C Venues (Edinburgh), and was Assistant Producer for Swedish dance company Nordberg Productions for their showcase at Edinburgh Fringe 2014.
Kate is a recipient of an ArtStart grant (2014) and the Ian Potter Cultural Trust (2018).
Kate performs with local comedy dance troupe The Cassettes – regulars at Falls Festival, Splendour in the Grass, Mullum and Bello Music Festivals, and Woodford Folk Festival.
