Gelareh POUR (VIC)

Iranian-born versatile musician, renowned as a Persian Kamancheh and Qeychak player, singer and composer, Gelareh Pour, has emerged as a prominent figure in Australia's music landscape, captivating audiences with her extraordinary talent and dedication to inter-cultural expression. From her early beginnings in Iran, where she commenced her musical journey at the age of seven, Gelareh's trajectory has been marked by a deep commitment to the Kamancheh, a traditional Persian string instrument. Having studied at the Art University of Tehran's conservatorium for her BA and completed her Masters of Ethnomusicology at The University of Melbourne, Gelareh's academic pursuits align seamlessly with her artistic endeavours.

Her unique research on 'The Lives of Iranian Women Singers in Diaspora' showcases a profound understanding of the cultural threads woven into her music. Gelareh's migration to Australia in 2012 became a pivotal moment, providing her with the freedom to explore and express the sounds that resonated within her. Breaking free from the confines of performing other composers' works, she composed an hour-long piece for Kamancheh and voice for a play, setting the stage for her journey into a world of personal musical creation.
