Benjamin ALLEN
Benjamin Allen is a Tasmanian interdisciplinary artist based in Launceston. His practice spans across real-time interactive visuals, spatial design, sound and movement practices including parkour, freerunning, breaking and contemporary dance.
Benjamin has an interest in the interwoven nature of architecture, infrastructure, technology and the body and how this might shape the future of bodily augmentations, distribution of assets, provision of amenity and digital citizenship. When it is increasingly difficult to trace causality and attribute responsibility, how do we find transparency and accountability in the increasingly complex and enmeshed structures that influence our lives?
His recent arts practice has included: MAPFEST Melaka (Malaysia); Buffalo Field Bangkok (Thailand); Mind the Gap DanceHUB residency (Adelaide); and a Tasdance residency. He was named as a ‘dancer to watch’ in the critic’s choice of Dance Australia Magazine (Feb/March 2020). He is currently studying a Bachelor of Environmental Design majoring in Architecture, and a Bachelor of Philosophy at UTAS.
